assembly

BOM

Stands for Bill of Materials and may also be referred to as an assembly. It is a hierarchical list of subassembly and part geometry that makes up your model.

CAD

Stands for Computer-Aided Design. A type of software used to design parts in both 2D and 3D.

camera

Represents the position, direction, and perspective in the viewing area.

F

File Manager

The area in Vertex that lists your models, stories, and workspaces.

G

geometry

All graphical objects, including lines, circles, and polygons.

M

model

A 3D representation of a part or assembly.

O

OEM

Stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. A company that manufactures parts that are sold under another company's brand name.

organization

The business or company that a user's account is associated with.

P

platform

Vertex's developer offering for building and deploying custom applications using APIs and SDKs.

PLM

Stands for Product Lifecycle Management. The process of managing a product's lifecycle, from designing to manufacturing to phasing out the product.

S

snapshot

An interactive 3D thumbnail that makes it easy to jump to various saved states of your model. Snapshots include the camera position, part visibility, markup, cross sections, and more. Snapshots are used to create a story.

standard view

A set of predefined, standard camera views. For example, top, bottom, left, isometric, etc.

story

A collection of snapshots that can be shared with colleagues to review complex 3D data easily. It can be thought of as a collaborative, 3D slideshow in which everyone can review the content and provide interactive feedback in the form of comments, attachments, screenshots, and more.

story collaborator

A person who has access to a story. Collaborators review stories and interact with the 3D data in each snapshot. They can analyze the model and provide feedback in the form of comments, attachments, screenshots, and more.

story creator

The person who created a story. They're the first to share a story with collaborators. They also control the story's settings.

story overview

The home page of a story. It contains a complete overview of a story's content, including a preview of the 3D snapshots used.

T

Team Workspace

A shared storage space that's used to control access to files and folders. The content in a Team Workspace belongs to team members instead of an individual.

top-level assembly

The entire assembly. It's listed first in the BOM, with all subassemblies and parts nested below.

viewing area

The area that displays the geometry in 3D models and stories.
